The Giving Fence: Take What You Need, Leave What You Can

The season of giving may be over, but The Giving Fence continues to spread warmth and cheer to the Wake Forest community. The Giving Fence is an outreach initiative conceived and embraced by Wake Electric, located in downtown Wake Forest.

The purpose?

“Individuals are encouraged to take any items they need and/or donate any clean coats, hats, scarves or gloves by pinning the items to the Giving Fence. All items on the Giving Fence will be free and we appreciate your help in keeping the fence tidy. By working together, the Giving Fence will support our community by ensuring all are kept warm during the cold months ahead.”

I happen to pass “the fence” daily after dropping my kids at school.  It’s full. It’s empty. It’s full. It’s empty. I may not reside in Wake Forest, but I wanted to be a part of this simplistic, yet impactful, idea.  I posted a message to my neighborhood Facebook page and my neighbors delivered. It brought me great joy to bring bags full of items that will help others combat our dropping temperatures.

The Giving Fence will close its inaugural season on February 10th. However, Wake Electric will continue to accept donations throughout the year in anticipation of next season, which begins in November 2020. Gently-used and CLEAN items can be placed in the donation bin located outside Wake Electric at 100 S. Franklin Street, or brought to the main lobby during business hours.

BOTTOM LINE:  If you and your neighbors are organizing closets this winter, consider donating to The Giving Fence.  On the flip side, if you are in need let The Giving Fence wrap you in warmth.
